Welcome to St. James!

I’d like to welcome you to St. James Anglican Church, the church where you soon come to feel like you’re part of the family!
Our roots go deep into the community of Hanover. St. James was the first church in town, established in 1860, originally in a log cabin, with the present brick church building dating from 1876. The church is a bright and welcoming space; the art deco-styled stained glass windows offer a modern and airy feel to the church. A beautiful addition in 2007 created a new entrance (narthex) and made the building wheelchair accessible, including an elevator to the parish hall in the lower level.

Our worship services—like our building–reflect a mixing and blending of the traditional and more modern, with music and singing an important and integral part of our worship. The Book of Alternative Services Communion Service provides the mainstay of Sunday worship, with quarterly Hymn Sing Services, Healing Services, special Family Services, and other special seasonal services (for example, Blessing of the Back-backs in September, Christmas Carol Sing, Easter Festival of Lessons and Songs, Blessing of the Animals for St. Francis Day, Back to Church Sunday to name a few) regularly interspersed throughout the year.

Christian Education begins with the Sunday service homily time, with sermons that center around the stories of the bible, and how they make sense for us as 21st century people. Through-out the year we have topical ‘Sermon Series’ allowing opportunities to delve deeper into specific topics or biblical concepts, helping us in our understanding and response to living ‘the way’ of Christ.
Also interspersed through-out the year are opportunities to grow your faith by joining a bible study –often including DVDs or other media or perhaps join one of our book studies—either in person or on-line.
Booklets with suggested daily bible readings and prayers are available for anyone who wishes to take home.
As you continue reading through our “Welcome Booklet” , we hope you will be inspired by the ways in which God’s Holy Spirit is moving through our dedicated and vibrant community and by the ways people find hope and friendship in our church family; and so, be inspired to join us in worship and ministry. We invite you to join us as we fulfill our vision to be

“a growing, joyful and committed faith community”.

If I can be helpful in anyway, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me!

In Christ’s service,
JoAnn Todd
