The St. James congregation call themselves “the singing church”, adhering to the directions of John Wesley to “sing lustily and with good courage (and to) above all sing spiritually”! The Music Ministry at St. James’ is an integral and important part of our Sunday worship, with much of the service sung. Special hymn sing services are a regular part of our worship cycle.
We are blessed to have the joyful and talented Rose Yuke, as our pianist/organist, as she brings much life and love to the ministry of music.
We also have a Rector who loves to bring us new and contemporary hymns to learn on a regular basis balanced with hymns classic to the Anglican tradition. Our Anglican “Common Praise” is our foundational hymn book, supplemented with hymns and songs from other traditions. Guest musicians and singers, including 2 flautists from our congregation, regularly round out and augment the joyful sounds of worship in song.
“Together in Music” Twice a year, in April and October we raise the roof, and pack the church for our “Together in Music” concerts. We bring together at St. James, the best in local talent for local needs. Free will offerings help support local charities. Our first concert’s receipts went to the Goderich Tornado Fund. In 2012 we focused on food and feeding those in need and donations went to Hanover’s Weekly Meal Program, “The Light on Main” and the Salvation ArmyFood Bank.
2013 concerts’ proceeds are going to Community Mental Health.
