Sunday-School-iconThough-out the regular school year, St. James has a Children’s Sunday School, which runs during the regular Sunday Service time.  We use “The Whole People of God” curriculum, which works well for a multi-aged Sunday School and follows the same series of bible readings in Sunday School as the adults are reading in church, allowing parents to follow up with the lessons in discussion at home.

Children join in the regular Sunday Service until the “Children’s Focus Time” where the Rector introduces the bible story for the day.  Children and youth receive a special bulletin or colouring page related to the bible passage to take home as well.  Children’s Focus ends with the saying of the Lord’s Prayer, so each child will come to know the prayer Jesus taught all his disciples to pray.

On “Family Service” Sundays,  the older children take central roles in the service, acting as greeters, servers, taking up the collection, doing the scripture readings and prayers, and/or presenting a special reading, play or song.  Frequently there is a theme to the service, for example our annual Blessings of the Backpacks Service, Blessing of the Animal Service, Food Bank Sundays, Cubs and Scouts Sunday and the like.

Also once per month, after school, we have ‘Kids’ Klub’ a children’s Christian education program.  We have snacks, bible stories, games or crafts or maybe some baking.  Best of all we have fun, learn about Jesus and the Bible and the children bring school friends to join them!

If you like working with children, doing crafts, or think children or youth ministry in one form or another is something you feel drawn to, please speak with the Rector or call the church at 519-364-2928.
